How you start the morning is how you set yourself up for the day. In this post, I’ll share six ways to start the day positively

There is a Cherokee legend about the two wolves inside us that are constantly fighting. One is full of all the negative stuff we store inside us: anger, fear, hate, jealousy and so on. The other is full of all the positive stuff: love, hope, forgiveness, kindness, compassion and so on. The story goes that when the grandson asks which wolf wins the fight, his grandfather tells him: the one you feed.

The point of the legend is that you don’t know what will happen to you, but you do get to choose how you react to it.

You choose which wolf you feed.

So, let’s look at how you can feed the positive wolf and keep the negative one at bay…

1. Practice gratitude

If you know anything about me, you’ll know that this is one of my core practices. It allows me to look for the silver lining when things don’t go my way, and it has gotten me through some horrible times. Taking the time each day to acknowledge 3 things that you have to be grateful for makes a huge difference in your life.

2. Keep a journal

Again, one of my cornerstone practices, keeping a journal allows you to download your day and process it. Starting your day with your journal will help you start the day on a positive note.

3. Repeat your affirmations

Start the day with your affirmations. We’ve been looking at affirmations this month so you know the benefits of them and how they can re-wire your brain.

4. Have breakfast

It’s really hard to be positive when you’re hungry or when you have low energy, so start the day with a nutritious breakfast, and you’ll have the energy you need to get you through the next few hours.

5. Work on your goals

Living your life on purpose involves setting goals, and then taking small steps each day to make them happen. Get clear on what you want to achieve each day and then go for it. Knowing what you have to do helps you to focus and really, there’s nothing better than knowing that you’re getting closer to your dreams.

6. Have fun

Whether you sing in the shower or dance to the radio when you get your breakfast, if you want to feel positive, have some fun first thing…

So, that’s my 6  suggestions on how you can start the day positively. What are your suggestions? How do you start the day with a positive frame of mind?
