What the heck was I thinking? This morning I was up at 5.45am, in the shower and off to the gym. Sásta is based in Carrick on Shannon, near where I live and they have these pod, where you’re on a treadmill, but in a vacuum, and the research shows that this burns fat quicker yay! There are only 4 pods in the Carrick studio, so it’s not intimidating.
But back to 6am this morning. As I’m in the shower, I’m thinking “what was I thinking? 6.30, I don’t get up that early”. Even as I was driving to Carrick, I’m still in a negative frame of mind, when I suddenly realise that I’m on the red platform.
What is the red platform?
I want you to imagine that you’re at a train station. There are two platforms: one red, one green. On the red platform is a train that is full of all your negative emotions and experiences. When you step onto that train, you can imagine where it goes. Actually, it goes nowhere! Now, there is a different train and this is on the green platform. This train does go places, because it’s full of positive emotions, opportunities and possibilities.
The thing is, sometimes you choose the red platform by accident, but once you recognise it for what it is, then you have the power to step off the red train, walk to the green platform and step onto the green train again. You can choose to step off the red platform anytime. That train isn’t going anywhere!
Getting back onto the green platform
Thankfully, driving into Carrick, I recognised that I was on the red platform, thinking negatively, so I was able to turn it around. This time, when I asked myself: “what was I thinking?” I started thinking about it in a positive way:
- I need to get fit.
- If I work out at this time, then I’ll be home in time to make breakfast and take my little one to school.
- If I work out at this time, after I’ve checked on my dad, I can work on my business.
- I’m strong, I can do this.
- I’m brave, I can do this.
- I can do this.
- The magic happens when you step outside your comfort zone.
- I can do this…
Can you see the change?
This is why I love coaching. Before, I would have gone into a negative downspin, talking myself out of doing something that I needed to do. Now I have a toolkit of skills in my arsenal that I can draw upon when facing a challenge or stepping outside my comfort zone.
By the way, I made it. Working out for an hour, I was home and was able to get on with things.
Take care for now, and remember, you ARE resourceful, creative and whole.

Great post. And well done for spotting you we’re on the red platform so quickly. Negativity is pretty natural for most of us, the trick is spotting it early and in this case switching platforms. We all have the power to do this.
Negative thoughts can certainly roll out of control! I love the train station analogy! Great way to think of it. The thought train doesn’t have to be derailed when we take control of our thoughts! Well said!
